The Central Government on Wednesday informed the Lower House that as of February 1, 2021, there are more than 400 Judicial vacancies in Indian High Courts.
As per the information provided by Ministry of Law & Justice, there were 419 vacancies of Judges in 25 High Courts on the said date.
This includes vacancies of 64 Judges in the Allahabad High Court, 31 Judges in the Delhi High Court, 30 Judges in the Bombay High Court and 40 Judges in the Calcutta High Court.
Further, 4 Judicial seats remain vacant at the Supreme Court of India against the sanctioned strength of 34 Judges (including the CJI).
The working strength of Judicial Officers in District and Subordinate Courts was 19,318 on January 28, 2021, as against the sanctioned strength of 24,247 officers.
